DALBY CATTLE SALE – WEDNESDAY 10TH JANUARY 2018

  • YARDING NUMBERS: 2476
  • LOCATION: Dalby
  • DATE: Jan 10, 2018
  •

There was a yarding of 2,476 for the first sale of the year. Young cattle dominated the sale, while there was a small penning of grown cattle. Quality of the young cattle was mixed, although there were some good runs of well-bred yearlings through the sale.

The market was cheaper for feeder cattle, however light yearlings and weaners met very strong restocker competition. Feeder steers sold to 310c to average 304c/kg to restockers. Feeder heifers topped at 284c to average 270c/kg. Restocker calves sold to a top of 412c, while light restocker weaner steers sold up to 396c to average 330c which is equal to the strong prices at the end of last year’s sale, and heifers sold to 310c/kg. The grown cattle market was a little easier, with grown steers selling to 285c and heifers to 276c/kg. The medium weight cows averaged 217c and heavy cows sold to 230c/kg.

With the limited numbers only a small number of export grade cattle were penned. Heavy steers selling to a top of 285c/kg and heavy cow classes to 230c/kg. Heavyweight steers to feed reached 310c/kg with most feeder operators active in the market. Trade feeder heifers sold to 290c/kg and heavyweight classes to 276c/kg.

Fair numbers of store cattle were penned for the 2nd round with some lighter conditioned western cattle included in the line up. Large numbers of restockers were present and keen to purchase. Calves returning to the paddock sold to 412c/kg with weaner steers to 396c/kg, all lightweight young cattle continued to demand the high rates on the closing of last year.
