Rain in parts of the local supply area reduced numbers by 1,624 to 3,414 head. Buyer attendance was good and included some interstate operators in the feeder sections. There was a wide variation in quality across most classes, however, some very good heavy grown steers and bullocks were penned along with a fair sample of medium and heavy cows. Prices responded to the rain and light weight yearling steers to restockers averaged 20c/kg better.

Medium yearling steers to feed averaged 13c to 18c/kg dearer. Light weight yearling heifers to background or restockers lifted in price by 22c/kg. Yearling heifers to feed for the domestic market gained 15c/kg. A lift in the quality and also in the market resulted in the younger end of the heavy grown steers and bullocks improving by close to 20c/kg.

Cows experienced a mixed trend with the plain condition lines remaining close to the previous weeks’ level, however, the better end of the cows improved by 10c to 14c/kg. Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 314.2c and the light weight yearling steers made to 302.2c, with a good sample averaging 289c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold in the mid-to high 280c range with some to 294.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 284c and made to 294.2c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers averaged close to 248c and made to 269.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 281c and made to 286.2c/kg.
