CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2,646 Cattle, consisting of 1,601 Prime Cattle & 1,045 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 210 Bullocks, 233 Heifers, 1,079 Cows and 79 Bulls.

The Store Section consisted of 275 Steers, 207 Mickeys, 536 Heifers and 27 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of a plainer quality yarding compared to previous weeks. Bullocks were mixed, there were a couple of lines of well finished Cows, but the majority lacked weight and condition. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Richmond, Torrens Creek, Normanton, Croydon, Georgetown, Einasleigh, Greenvale, Belyando as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 10¢ easier, Heifers were 15¢ easier, Cows were 10¢ easier, and Bulls were 25¢ easier on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 330¢/kg on A/c Columba Catholic College, Charters Towers that weighed 590kg to return $1,948 per head
  • Best Priced trade Heifers were presented on A/c Stephen Steadman, Watten Downs, Hughenden that sold for 276¢/kg and weighed 437kg to return $1,206 per head
  • The top pen of Cows were sold by A/c Mt Douglas Pastoral Co, Mt Douglas, Clermont for 2¢/kg, weighing 579kg to return $1,563 per head
  • A line of 132 Prime Cows sold on A/c Welcome Downs Cattle Co, The Lynd, Einasleigh sold for 265¢/kg to weigh 480kg and return $1,272 per head
  • Bulls sold on A/c Mann Beef Pty Ltd, Lochwall, Charters Towers topped at 264¢/kg and weighed 798kg, to return $2,108 per head

Store Quotes: Store cattle were predominantly western and northern pastoral type cattle of mixed quality and condition. A couple of smaller lines of local and coastal cattle sold firm, however plainer types and Heifers sub 200kg could not maintain last week’s rates.
