CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 3048 Cattle, consisting of 1492 Prime Cattle and 1556 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 471 Bullocks, 140 Heifers, 562 Cows and 319 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 949 Steers, 561 Heifers and 46 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of larger lines of medium to heavyweight steers, with smaller lines of well finished cows yarded. Bulls suitable for export are still selling to very solid competition. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Richmond, Burketown, Croydon, Normanton, Georgetown, Hughenden as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 10¢ dearer, Heifers were 8¢ dearer, Cows were firm, and Bulls were 5¢ dearer, on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 336¢/kg on a/c G & C Connolly that weighed 545kg to return a $1,831 per head.
  • Best priced trade Heifers were presented on a/c Simmons Family Trust, “Annavale”, Charters Towers that sold for 296¢/kg and weighed 540kg to return $1,599 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows was sold by a/c Michael White for 274¢/kg, weighing 620kg to return $1,700 per head.
  • Bulls sold on a/c Michael White, topped at 312¢/kg and weighed 620kg, to return $2,310 per head.

Store Quotes: Store cattle were predominately made up of smaller consignments with Feeder weight Steers & Mickeys suitable to both the Live Export & Domestic market selling to a competitive panel of buyers. Feeder Heifers maintained last week’s rates along with weaner heifers seeing not a lot of change.

  • A pen of 6 Steers a/c Roncato Agri made 316¢/kg and weighed 375kg, returning an average of $1,185 per head.
  • A good pen of 8 Heifers on a/c G & C Connolly made 274¢/kg, weighed 316kg returning $867 per head.
  • 19 x 17 Cows & Calves sold on a/c D & A Forster and returned $945 per unit
