CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 7TH MAY 2025

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 3,530 Cattle, consisting of 1,458 Prime Cattle and 2,072 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 271 Bullocks, 262 Heifers, 873 Cows and 52 Bulls & Males. The Store section consisted of 1,016 Steers, 274 Mickeys, 739 Heifers and 43 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of limited pens of heavy finished Bullocks and Prime Heifers, with the majority of the Prime yarding consisting of well finished northern Cows. The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Dimbulah, Mount Isa, Croydon, Georgetown, Einasleigh, Hughenden as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 15¢ easier, Heifers were 20¢ easier, Cows were 20¢ easier and Bulls were 15¢ easier, on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 320¢/kg for a pen of 17 Droughtmaster Cross Steers and sold on a/c P & J Ahloy that weighed 588kg to return $1,881 per head.
  • Best priced trade Heifers were presented on a/c Stephen Steadman that sold for 290¢/kg and weighed 507kg to return $1,471 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows was sold by a/c Stephen Steadman, for 264¢/kg, weighing 601kg to return $1,588 per head.
  • Heavy Bulls sold on a/c Stringer Family, topped at 268¢/kg and weighed 830kg, to return $2,226 per head.

Store Quotes: Store Cattle were made up of mixed weaners and backgrounder weights with cattle drawn from a wide area. Several large lines of Store Cattle were on offer, with restockers both local and travelling very active on cattle presented.

  • A pen of 8 Steers a/c Parklands made 350¢/kg and weighed 346kg, returning an average of $1,211 per head.
  • A good pen of 35 Droughtmaster Heifers on a/c Dept of Primary Industries made 320¢/kg, weighed 266kg returning $851 per head.
  • 17 Cows & Calves sold on a/c LB & SR McDonald and returned $1,190 per head.
