CHARTERS TOWERS STORE & PRIME CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 21ST AUGUST 2024
Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2966 cattle, consisting of 867 Prime cattle & 2099 Store cattle. The Prime cattle consisted of 135 Bullocks, 115 Heifers, 511 Cows and 106 Bulls.
The Store section consisted of 1421 Steers, 202 Mickeys, 474 Heifers and 2 x 2 Cows and Calves.
Cattle comprised of isolated pens of heavy export slaughter Bullocks and Cows which sold to a dearer trend. There was a large supply of Bulls penned which sold to a similar trend as last week’s rates.
The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Richmond, Normanton, Georgetown, Chillagoe, Croydon, Forsayth, Einasleigh, Hughenden, Prairie, well as local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 10-15¢ dearer, Heifers 5-10¢ dearer, Cows were 12-15¢ dearer, and Bulls were firm on last week’s rates.

- Bullocks topped at 308¢/kg, sold on a/c E & H Matthews, Charters Towers that weighed 690kg to return $2,126 per head.
- Best Priced trade Heifers were presented on a/c Brown & Sons, “Mayfield”, Mt Isa that sold for 280¢/kg, and weighed 490kg to return $1,372 per head.
- The top pen of Cows was sold on a/c LCB Cattle, Georgetown for 288¢/kg, weighing 569kg to return $1,640 per head.
- Bulls sold on a/c PJ Elliot, Georgetown topped at 272¢/kg and weighed 680kg, to return $1,850 per head.
Store Quotes: Store cattle consisted of two large consignments of northern and western bred Steers and Heifers which sold to strong demand with an increased buying panel operating.

- A pen of 37 Crossbred Steers A/c Inverleigh Past Co, Normanton made 338¢/kg, weighing 225kg to return $760 per head.
- A good pen of Heifers on a/c GJ Price & Son, Hughenden made 260¢/kg, weighed 3365kg returning $949 per head.
- A pen of 13 Brangus Cross Heifers A/c Crawford Equipment Hire, Woodstock made 258¢/kg, weighing 352kg to return $908 per head.
