CHARTERS TOWERS STORE & PRIME CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 28TH AUGUST 2024
Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2,726 cattle, consisting of 939 prime cattle & 1,787 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 206 Bullocks, 99 Heifers, 544 Cows and 90 Bulls. The store cattle consisted of 737 Steers, 477 Mickeys, 571 Heifers and 2 Cows & Calves.
Cattle comprised of good Bullocks and Cows with competition strong across all the better types. Store condition Cows were in demand, however there was less competition on Bulls as Exporters were not operating. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Julia Creek, Hughenden, Mt Garnet, Einasleigh, Tully, Ingham, Muttaburra, Camooweal, Croydon, McKinlay, Bowen as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 20-40¢ dearer, Heifers were 20-30¢ dearer, Cows were 8-15¢ dearer, and Bulls were 10-20¢ easier on last week’s rates.

- Bullocks topped at 2¢/kg for 5 Ox sold on A/c Callan Farming & Grazing, Ingham that weighed 664kg to return $2,245 per head.
- Best priced trade Heifers were presented on A/c JDC Cattle Co, “Culloden”, Muttaburra that sold for 302.2¢/kg and weighed 476kg to return $1,437 per head.
- The top pen of Cows were sold by A/c NR & KM Delacour, Charters Towers for 2¢/kg, weighing 630kg to return $1,803 per head.
- Bulls sold on A/c BN Young, Georgetown topped at 2¢/kg and weighed 720kg, to return $1,959 per head.
Store Quotes: Store cattle were made up of some very good lines of heavier trade Steers from the west along with younger types from the north and local areas. A stronger gallery of buyers, both locally and from the central and south saw increased competition across all lines of cattle.

- A run of 154 Steers A/c Brown & Sons, “Beenfield”, McKinlay made a top of 2¢/kg to average 303.2¢/kg and weighed an average of 354kg, returning an average of $1,074 per head.
- A good pen of 15 Heifers on A/c Brown & Sons, “Mayfield”, Duchess via Mt Isa made 2¢/kg, weighed 353kg, returning an average of $942 per head.
- Cows & Calves sold to $900 per unit.
