CHARTERS TOWERS STORE & PRIME CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 3,492 Cattle, consisting of 1,403 Prime Cattle and 2,089 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 250 Bullocks, 125 Heifers, 937 Cows and 91 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 890 Steers, 335 Mickeys, 847 Heifers and 17 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of a finished pens of good Brahman Bullocks and Cows, with fresh lighter Ox and Cows selling to increased competition. The yarding was drawn from Mount Isa, Julia Creek, Burketown, Hughenden, Einasleigh, Georgetown, Ingham, Woodstock as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 7¢ dearer, Heifers were unchanged, Cows were 10-12¢ dearer and Bulls were 20¢ easier, on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 324¢/kg on a/c B & C Hughes, Lanes Creek, that weighed 652g to return a $2,114 per head
  • Best priced trade Heifers were presented on a/c Burdekin Brahmans that sold for 298¢/kg and weighed 465kg to return $1,386 per head
  • The top pen of Cows was sold by B & C Hughes, Lanes Creek, for 294¢/kg, weighing 560kg to return $1,646 per head
  • Another good pen of Cows was sold by Burdekin Brahmans for 293¢/kg, weighing 597kg to return $1,753 per head
  • Bulls sold on a/c Mirambeena Hicks Family, topped at 268¢/kg and weighed 690kg, to return $1,850 per head

 

Store Quotes: Store Cattle were made up of some large lines of light weight cattle that sold to a buoyant market on the back of a lift in the prime market.
