EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 1ST MAY 2025

Numbers improved slightly at Emerald today with a yarding of 2,251 head, good numbers of bullocks, cows and heifers over 280kg made up the bulk of the numbers. Whilst the processing sector was well represented prices followed the current trend to ease in all categories, feeder heifers sold close to firm and a small sample of better bred feeder steers gained solid competition & given the special feature sale next Tuesday the 6th of May there were very few genuine weaners (male or female) penned.

Bullocks in good numbers sold to about 328c, cows over 520kg peaked around 280c to see the average back 16c at 270c, cows 450-520kg averaged around 265c, cows under 450kg held their own to see a top of 267c to average 258c, heifers over 400kg in good numbers peaked at 326c to average 300c back 12c, bulls over 600kg reached 280c to average 258c.

Steers 400-500kg sold to 390c but the mix in breed and quality in this class saw the average come in at 337c, steers 350-400kg darn near too few to quote topped at 414c, steers 280-350kg short numbers made to 438c however this was a very mixed small class effecting the average at 327c, Steers 200-280kg too few to quote peaked at 438c, steers under 200kg NQ.

Heifers 350-400kg were mixed in age breed and quality to see the best top at 336c the average of 301c was back 15c given the factors mentioned playing a part, heifers 280-350kg also a mixed class potentially effecting to average sold to 326c to average 280c, heifers 200-280kg reached 350c the average easing 8c at 286c, heifers under 200kg N/Q.

There were no cows and calves offered.
