EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 20TH JUNE 2024

Emerald vendors penned a much smaller yarding of 1104 head, 699 less than last sale . Quality was quite mixed and condition varied in many classes. With the smaller yarding, fewer buyers were able to operate and prices did not improve other than in reaction to the variations in quality on offer.

Some light weight vealer heifers penned sold to 159c/kg for best-bred lines.

Yearling steers in light weight pens sold to 360c/kg on occasions. However, the best bred lines averaged 313c/kg. Medium weights sold to average 275c to 293c/kg for well bred pens. Yearling heifers in light weight pens made to 203c/kg, averaging 169c/kg. Medium weights sold to backgrounders to top at 257c/kg with averages from 220c to 237c/kg. `
A few grown steers to feed sold from 273c to 299c/kg with the bullocks to processors making from 247c to 267c/kg average, topping at 299c/kg. Trade weight heifers were sought after, averaging 197c to 235c/kg with feeders prepared to pay to 273c/kg on occasions.

Best cows reached 208c/kg, averaging 199c/kg.
