EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 21ST NOVEMBER 2024
Agents offered a smaller yarding of 1127 head for this week’s Emerald combined sale. Most were consigned from the more immediate area, quality & presentation was mixed in most classes, with numbers once again spread across most weight and age ranges except for a large single vendor offering of good quality Santa feeder steers. The processing sector was well represented and all accounts operated on limited numbers of suitable product, bullocks were darn near too few to quote those over 550kg peaked at 348c the average improved 13c at 338c, whilst all the cows sold well and the averages lifted across all weight ranges buyers were somewhat selective paying attention to age & yield, the best made to 296c (similar to last week) averaging 282c, cows 450/520kg the average lifted 5c in line with an improved offering & light cows were really too few to quote but what was presented sold well above recent results, Heifers over 400kg with some cover sold well with spirited bidding from processors and feeder operators most times processors winning the race to see a high of 323c the average up 20c to 316c & bulls in lesser numbers and mixed in age, presentation and finish topped at 278c the average up 8c.
In the feeder section the steers mentioned above were genuine in the slot grain steers had buyers salivating to peak at a very healthy 406c, most other pens/lots sold to a very respectable 390c with a much improved offering saw the average lift considerably by 67c at 395c, steers 350/400kg in a small mixed yarding sold to 356c to average 321c N/Q, heifers 350/400kg in very limited supply made to 310c, heifers 280/350kg attracted a lot more attention this week with sales to 340c to average 304c up 31c.
Weaner & yearling steers 280/350kg were a very mixed class the best peaked at 394c the average was 326c firm, steers in the 200/280kg weight range were also mixed to again top out at 394c however the average overall was affected at 306c, steers under 200kg too few to quote. Weaner & yearling Heifers under 280kg again mixed sold from 230c to veal with a high of 312c to back grounders to average 274c up 41c on last sale, heifers under 200kg in small mixed numbers didn’t get a lot of buyer interest from locals most selling to veal with a high of 252c to average 232c to ease 5c.
There were no cows and calves offered.
