EMERALD FEATURE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – TUESDAY 3RD JUNE 2025

Feature sale number two is completed for 2025, yielding a reduced yarding of 4,300 head. Most were consigned from the local area. The quality and presentation were a step up from the previous feature sale and most vendors were rewarded with prices lifting for nearly all categories. Steers produced the greatest numbers with a yarding of 2,708 head, there were 1,581 heifers and a couple of mickeys rounded out the numbers.

The feedlot sector was well represented. Steers over 500kg were too few to quote, selling to 370c. Steers 400-500kg averaged 363c topping at 396c for steers going back to grass or crop, steers 350-400kg weaners and yearlings in this class selling to feedlots, grass and backgrounders averaged 369c with a high of 420c. Heifers over 400kg in small numbers sold to a top of 350c to average 319c, heifers 350-400kg in good supply made to 356c to average 329c, in a pleasing result for most vendors.

Weaner steers gained plenty of buyer interest albeit, buyers remained selective on breed, type and presentation. Steers 280-350kg, one of the biggest classes for the day reached 468c to average 412c, this was up 32c on the May sale however it was also a classier run of steers. Steers 200-280kg, also in good numbers topped at 490c on occasion for steers with accreditation, most did not exceed 465c to average a very healthy 431c. Steers under 200kg in small numbers but were back in vogue peaking at 460c to average 429c, well above previous results some 63c better.

Heifers 280-350kg with both yearlings and weaners in this class noted in the average of 314c, however most of the better-bred softer calves sold from 340c to peak at 374c. Heifers 200-280kg in good numbers made to 372c to average 313c, one of the only classes where the average remained firm to easier. Heifers under 200kg near too few to quote made to 290c with a quality related average of 278c.
