GRACEMERE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 27TH JULY 2022

CQLX Gracemere sale numbers decreased by 2,969 to 1767 head. Cattle were drawn mostly from local areas along with some from Collinsville to the north and south to Calliope. Quality was good overall with just a few small mobs of plain cattle scattered throughout the sale. The buying panel was light on with only one local processor and a couple of smaller operators active. One major local processor was not in attendance. This resulted in a drop in prices which flowed through the entire yarding.

Yearling steers to restockers sold to 538c/kg in light weight lines to average 427c to 469c/kg. Medium weight pens averaged 443c to 487c/kg to restockers. Light weight pens of yearling heifers were shared by processors, feeders and restockers with restockers producing the best averages of 400c to 413c/kg with occasional sales to 450c/kg. Medium weight pens averaged 322c/kg to 361c/kg to feed.

Grown steers were lightly supplied with feeders selling to 438c/kg to average 325c to 352c/kg and a few going to processors at 317c/kg. Feedlots paid from 321c to 337c/kg average for their grown heifers and those to the trade sold to a top of 322c/kg to average 308c to 313c/kg.

Restockers purchased cows at 265c to 279c/kg average which included some PTIC pens. Heavy cows to processors sold to a 298c/kg top returning a 277c/kg average. Heavy bulls averaged 275c/kg to processors and 288c/kg to feed. Cows and calves sold from $1,525 to $2,300 per unit with several pens of PTIC cows selling from $1,200 to $1,700 per head.
