The first weaner & feeder sale for 2024 saw combined agents yard a total of 6532 head, consisting of 4399 steers & 2130 heifers. Trends from previous years held true with cattle offered being sold into a stronger market than previous weekly sales. Starting with the feeder steers, the best of them reached a top of 320c/kg to average 290c/kg. Weaner steers saw a top price of 400c/kg with an average of 311c/kg. The 200-280kg weight range saw 2470 weaner steers offered to average 328c/kg and reached a top price of 380c/kg. Feeder heifers averaged 257c/kg, & topped out at 292c/kg for some very good quality grey Brahmans. Weaner heifers reached a top price of 278c/kg, with an average of 226c/kg. Overall, the sale saw some very good quality lines of cattle from local producers & an average price increase of 34 cents in the steers & 25 cents in the heifers from the previous weekly sale. Buyers had an opportunity to pick from some great cattle on offer with the chance to take away larger numbers than regular weekly sales.
