WARWICK SHEEP SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 12TH JANUARY 2022
Warwick agents penned 2,169 sheep and lambs for the first sale in 2022 with 1,520 lambs and 649 grown sheep. All the regular wholesale, feeder and butcher buyers were present and operating along with a large panel of restockers however not all the export processors operated. The overall yarding was good with a well finished trade and export lambs on offer along with quality store lambs. Prices remained strong for all trade, butchers and store lambs.
Light weight young lambs returning to the paddock sold to $157 and averaged $137/head. Young sucker lambs to wholesalers sold to $209/head. Light weight lambs to the wholesale meat trade averaged $204 and sold to $206/head. Lambs in the 20-22kg range to feeder buyers averaged $175 and sold to $186 with butchers paying to $217 and averaging $195/head. Lambs to the wholesale meat trade sold to $228 and averaged $211/head.
Heavy weight lambs to processors averaged $216 and sold to $228/head. Heavy score 3 hoggets to processors averaged $196 and sold to $222/head. Good heavy ewes to processors made to $221 with store ewes returning to the paddock at $185 to average $163/head. Ram lambs to the wholesale meat trade sold to $192 with several finding new homes at $264/head.
