• Country Type:

  Land and soil types are highly productive and what make the Theodore region one of the most productively diverse and tightly held regions in Queensland. Acacia is benefited by alluvial river flats adjacent to the Dawson River which transition to undulating softwood scrub soils towards the northern boundary.

  Flood irrigation areas have been planted to Oats and are seasonally grazed in conjunction with Leucaena and improved pasture areas. Some of the oats crop this year has been ungrazed and will be harvested. The irrigated portion of the Leucaena has been subdivided into 16 cells each with two watering points (primarily cup and saucer). This high degree of segregation enables an effective cell grazing model to be implemented and effective regeneration of pasture and Leucaena immediately following stock movement. In addition to the intensive grazing areas, approximately 427 hectares is classified as grazing land and is benefited by extensive stands of Buffel, Green Panic and Rhodes with Seca and native Stylos evident.

• Water:

  Water infrastructure across Acacia is a feature and is underpinned by two distinct sources which feed into the water reticulation system. Stock grazing flood irrigation areas water out of the ring tanks while irrigated Leucaena areas are watered via a system of 15 watering points (primarily cup and saucer). Water is sourced either from the Centre Pivot pumps or a separate variable speed pump located on the Dawson River which feed into a 63 millimeter reticulation system.

• Irrigation:

  Water Entitlements
  Acacia is benefited by substantial water licenses (by district standards) which underpin irrigation areas and ensure consistent annual production. Water licenses total a combined 2,699 megalitres comprising of both High Flow (2,199 megalitres) and Medium Security (500 megalitres). In addition to the above licenses is an Overland Flow allocation of 200 megalitres and 3 registered bores that are unregulated as to the amount of water allowed to be drawn from them.   Storages
  On farm water storages comprise three main ring tanks with a combined capacity of approximately 1,000 megalitres. Ring tanks and associated pumping infrastructure has been developed in such a way to enable movement of water from each ring tank to all irrigation fields.

  204 Ha of flood irrigation currently planted to oats.
  3 Centre Pivots covering 72 Ha each currently planted to Leucaena and improved pastures.
