BANNOCKBURN & TANCRED

BANNOCKBURN & TANCRED

Bannockburn and Tancred are being offered for Auction. This is the first time Tancred has been offered for sale since being drawn in 1955. Bannockburn was purchased shortly after in 1957. This is an outstanding breeder property with a reputation for producing some of the best Droughtmaster & Charolais X cattle to be presented for market. Bannockburn & Tancred is traditionally very safe breeder country with diverse lands providing an abundance of fodder and seasonal feeds allowing for any seasonal condition.

Vast improvements over the years have seen the productivity and sustainability of this country increase.  This allows for the expansion to carry larger number of breeders whilst retaining its ability to do so during prolonged periods of drought. Bannockburn & Tancred have maintained breeders and continued to produce weaners during these prolonged droughts. A testament to its reputation as “safe” country.

202,700 acres of diverse country allows for every seasonal condition.

~ Higher altitude narrow leaf Ironbark & Box country with an array of browsable low bushes, seasonal Button grasses, Desert Mitchell, legumes / Seca and Spear grass allows cattle to seek sheltered dry country with an abundance of feed for periods of high rainfall.

~ Lower, heavier country such as Black Gidyea/Bauhinia allows for heavier carrying, improved pastures and native grasses the likes of Buffel, Flinders, Desert Mitchell, legumes and summer perennials. This country is renowned for its ability to grow bulk feed during wetter seasons and retains valuable levels of proteins for drier months.

~ Between these two countries lies the third, Spinifex – true desert country. This is an amazing native grass known for its versatility with the ability to fatten dry cattle or rare an exceptional weaner from the breeder herd. Spinifex country is country that sticks with you for prolonged dry periods. This is a very palatable and desirable variety of Spinifex. There has also seen the introduction of the legume Seca Stylo.

Auction – 11am, Friday 8th September 2023 at Longreach Birdcage Hotel unless sold prior.

Please note green pasture photos were taken during the 2021 season.

Bannockburn / Tancred is a very well watered property with numerous bores, tanks, dams and solar pumps.

    BORES
9 Bores in total are strategically located over the property with one bore being installed in 2022. These bores range from Sub-Artesian to Artesian and flowing. SOLAR pumps
9 Solar pumps are now in place as traditional diesel pumps or mills failed. This has been a great investment in the renewing of older infrastructure therefore saving on man hours refuelling and maintaining upkeep.

    MILLS
7 windmills are presently pumping from dams to tanks and reticulating to troughs. These dams are closed / fenced to keep stock out.

    DAMS
4 dams are open to stock. Some of these are seasonal holes.

*** All Dams - solar/windmills/open have been cleaned out in 2012/2013. Most dams are 7,000 - 9,000 yards.
