DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2024

Cattle numbers reduced by 425 head to 5,766 at Dalby. The quality of the young cattle was very mixed and this was reflected in the wide variation in prices. Export buyer attendance was good and all were operating however not all the regular feed and trade buyers were present. The very best of the light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock experienced strong support however a small reduction in quality resulted in a large fall in price. Yearling steers to feed averaged 15c/kg less. Top end quality light weight yearling heifers to restockers received strong demand however poor quality lines were discounted.

Yearling heifers to feed averaged 13c to 23c/kg less. Heavy grown steers and bullocks to export processors sold to within a few cents of the previous week. All classes of cows sold to a cheaper trend of 7c to 12c/kg. Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to a top of 442c with the largest numbers at 374c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged from 347c to 352c and sold to 374c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 378c to average 360c/kg. The best of the light weight yearling heifers to restockers made to 332c with most around 282c and a very poor quality lines made from 130c to 172c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 326c and averaged from 289c to 298c/kg. Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 310c the occasional sale to 348c/kg. Bullocks made to 350c to average 343c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 248c and made to 269c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 272c and the best of the heavy weights averaged 288c with the occasional sale to 305c/kg. Heavy weight bulls were cheaper with sales to 288c/kg.
