CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 9TH OCTOBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2,970 cattle, consisting of 1,669 Prime Cattle and 1,301 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 219 Bullocks, 194 Heifers, 1,056 Cows and 200 Bulls. Store Cattle consisted of 795 Steers, 485 Heifers and 21 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of isolated pens of well finished western Bullocks and Heifers. Smaller pens of well finished Cows yarded selling to similar rates, with plainer Cows losing ground. Bulls sold to a dearer trend, with all processors and one exporter active. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Hughenden, Croydon, Collinsville as well as local & coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 5¢ easier, Heifers were unchanged, Cows were 10¢ easier, and Bulls 10¢ dearer than last week.

  • Bullocks topped at 315¢/kg, sold on A/c LW & NL Miller, “Wyaldra”, Julia Creek that weighed 608kg, to return $1,915 per head.
  • Best Priced trade Heifers were presented on A/c LW & NL Miller, “Wyaldra”, Julia Creek that sold for 284¢/kg and weighed 409kg to return $1,161 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows were sold by A/c AJ & MM Ford, East Barron via Atherton for 278¢/kg, weighing 600kg to realise $1,688 per head.
  • Bulls sold on a/c AJ & MM Ford, East Barron via Atherton topped at 288¢/kg and weighed 797kg to return $2,295 per head.

Store Quotes: Store cattle were made up of isolated pens of quality local Steers, with crossbred Steers attracting the most attention. Store Heifers saw a further correction, with the lighter conditioned, sub 270kg Heifers receiving very little attention.

  • A pen of 14 Steers A/c Arrow B Contracting, “Elimnet”, Charters Towers made 302¢/kg and weighed 228kg, to return $688 per head.
  • A run of 80 Steers A/c LA & ML Brazier, Charters Towers made 282¢/kg, weighing in at 346kg, returning an average of $976 per head.
  • A good run of 66 Heifers on A/c LW & NL Miller, “Wyaldra”, Julia Creek made 268¢/kg, weighed 323kg, returning $865 per head.
  • 21 Cows & Calves sold by multiple vendors selling in a range from $600 – $650 per head.
