EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 10TH APRIL 2025

With no sale last week, numbers improved to just over 2,300 head at this week’s Emerald combined sale. Quality and consistency were good in most classes with cows & heifers over 280kg producing the greatest numbers. The processing sector was close to full strength, the market was firm to a touch easier from the results a fortnight prior, however, a lift in presentation/finish saw most averages hold firm, feeder weight cattle in all classes, male or female saw improvement & a small offering of much better-quality weaners saw improved competition with some significant gains achieved.

Bullocks a small sample sold to 354c to a/v 346c, a much improved run of cows over 520kg made to about 304c with most sales not exceeding around 298c to a/v around 288c firm, cows 450/520kg a/v about 275c with the odd heifer quoted in the table below in this class distorting the results, cows 400/450kg sold to 281c to a/v 266c, heifers over 400kg in good supply made to 337c to a/v 318c firm, bulls peaked at 308c on occasion the a/v lifting 11c at 263c. Feeder steers over 400kg in lesser numbers sold to 380c to a/v 340c up 11c, steers 350/400kg in a very mixed class shown in the results, the best of the heavy weaners got to 424c to a/v 346c, steers 280/350kg in good numbers, the best of the local calves peaked at a very healthy 474c to a/v of 374c in line with the mix in age, breed & quality, Steers 200/280kg made to 488c to a/v 432c well above recent results, steers under 200kg NQ.

Feeder heifers 350/400kg in good numbers topped at 346c to a/v 320c up 20c, heifers 280/350kg in the 2nd biggest class for the day the best of the weaners made to 374c the a/v of 315c up 25c, heifers 200/280kg reached 354c to a/v 292c improving 10c, heifers under 200kg NQ.
