DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 16TH APRIL 2025
The upcoming run of short working weeks reduced cattle numbers at Dalby by 1,760 head, bringing the total yarding to 4,072. Restrictions on stock movements from the far west of the state remain evident. However, 360 head from New South Wales were included in the lineup. The trend of increased turnoff of cows and heifers, seen across most selling centres nationwide, continued at Dalby. The regular panel of buyers was present and active across all classes. Lightweight yearling steers and heifers to restockers experienced only quality-related price variations, with well-bred lines receiving strong support. Medium and heavyweight yearling steers to feed averaged 13c to 15c/kg dearer. Medium and heavyweight yearling heifers to feed improved by 10c to 12c/kg. All classes of cows were stronger in price, averaging 5c to 6c/kg dearer. Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock sold to a top of 500c/kg, with a large sample averaging 446c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market reached 444c/kg, with most sales ranging from 399c to 415c/kg. Heavyweight yearling steers to feed averaged 391c/kg, with an isolated top sale at 440c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers returning to the paddock topped at 380c/kg to average 330c/kg, while poorer quality lines averaged 274c/kg. Medium and heavyweight yearling heifers to feed averaged 350c/kg and sold to a top of 380c/kg. A small number of bullocks sold to 367c/kg, while heavy export heifers reached 366c/kg. Medium weight 2-score cows averaged 269c/kg and sold to 275c/kg. Heavyweight 3-score cows averaged 289c/kg, with the best of the heavy cows reaching a top of 322c/kg and a fair sample averaging 307c/kg. Heavyweight bulls were dearer, topping at 356c/kg. Quality young cows and calves sold to a top of $2,040.
