Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2,049 cattle. Consisting of 1,167 Prime cattle & 822 Store cattle. Prime cattle consisted of 144 bullocks, 108 heifers, 875 cows & 40 bulls. The Store cattle consisted of 519 Steers, 346 Heifers & 17 X 17 Cows & Calves

Cattle comprised of only a few good quality pens of meatworks bullocks & prime heifers. The yarding was dominated by well-finished cows & only a small sample of bulls.
The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Torrens Creek, Pentland, Laura, Tully, Mt Garnet, Greenvale as well as local & coastal areas.

Prime Quotes
Bullocks were quoted 5c easier, Heifers were 15c easier, Cows were 5c easier & Bulls were 10c easier on the last sale rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 350c/kg, sold on A/c Kevin Young ‘Dells Hole’ Forsayth that weighed 562kg, to return $1,967 per head.
  • Best priced trade heifers were presented on A/c DAFF ‘Spyglass’ Charters Towers that sold for 338c/kg, that weighed 460kg to return $1,554 per head.
  • The top pen of cows were sold by A/c BW & GJ Kirkwood ‘Somerview’ Charters Towers for 325c/kg, weighing 640kg to return $2,080 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/c Lascelles Pastoral Co ‘Lascelles’ Charters Towers, topped at 330c/kg, & weighed 836kgto return $2,758 per head.

Store Quotes
Store cattle comprised of mostly small pens of local Brahman weaners as well as a large line of light weight northern weaners. Quality condition & weight was preferred & lighter weight rough offerings struggled

  • A good pen of Heifers on A/c Heslin Cattle Co sold for 332c/kg, to weigh 316kg & return $1,049 per head.
  • 2 Cows & Calves sold on A/c Jake & Anna Bethel made $1,325 per unit.
