DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 20TH MAY 2026
Useful falls of rain over the supply area reduced cattle numbers at Dalby by 3,001 head to 3,764, with the number of cows penned also declining to 670 head. Export buyer attendance was good and all were active in the market, while a full panel of feeder operators returned alongside restockers. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock were firm to 5c/kg better, while yearling steers to feed averaged 8c/kg dearer and more in places.
Light weight yearling heifers varied in price according to quality, and yearling heifers to feed sold to a market 12c/kg dearer, with quality lines improving further. Heavy grown steers and bullocks experienced stronger support, although medium weight plain condition cows struggled to maintain last week’s prices. Heavy weight cows, however, improved a further 2c to 6c/kg. Yearling steers under 200kg to restockers made to 513c to average 451c/kg, while the under 280kg lines made to 525c to average 477c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 536c, with a good sample ranging from 483c to 496c/kg.
Heavy weight yearling steers to feed reached a top of 534c, with most sales around 478c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock averaged from 339c to 366c and sold to 420c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 418c to 423c, with one pen reaching 460c/kg, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed made to 446c and averaged 420c/kg.
Heavy grown steers and bullocks made to 465c and averaged 442c to 448c/kg, while grown heifers made to 432c/kg. Medium 2 score cows averaged 298c and made to 306c/kg. Heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 342c, and the best cows made to 390c to average 374c/kg. Heavy weight bulls made to 410c, with one bull finding a new home at 426c/kg.
