CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 27TH MAY 2026
Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 4,397 Cattle, consisting of 2,026 Prime Cattle and 2,401 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 268 Bullocks, 910 Heifers, 745 Cows and 103 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 1,534 Steers & Mickeys, 837 Heifers and 30 x 30 Cows and Calves.
Prime Cattle comprised of isolated pens of heavy Bullocks and was dominated by a large run of well finished prime Heifers and Cows. Heavyweights were well sought after with extra competition from two southern processors and regular buyers competed for the rest in a market that was 30-40 cents dearer. The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Einasleigh, Georgetown, Julia Creek, Chillagoe and Croydon as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes: Bullocks this week 40-60¢ dearer on the lead pens. Cows 40-55¢ dearer and Heifers 12¢ better.

- Bullocks topped the job at 440.2¢/kg A/c W & G West weighing an average of 605kg, for a return of $2,665 per head.
- Processor Heifers saw a top this week of 392.2¢/kg for a pen of Heifers in on A/c Cunningham Cattle Company, weighing 462kg to return $1,812 per head.
- BW & GJ Kirkwood, “Somerview” Charters Towers topped the Cow market with a pen making 405¢/kg, for an average weight of 624kg, to return $2,530 per head.
- Bulls presented on A/c BW & GJ Kirkwood, “Somerview” Charters Towers topped at 374.2¢/kg for an average weight of 580kg, to return $2, 170 per head.
Store Quotes: Store cattle comprised of a standout line of local steers and a mixed yarding of heifers. Lines and quality pens attracted premiums particularly for the heavier end, plain and lightweight types were discounted.

- A line of No. 5 Brahman backgrounder Steers A/c AH Pastoral “Allan Hills” Charters Towers sold to a top of 442¢/kg, to weigh 313kg and return $1,387 per head.
- Ashley Fields offered the best of the light store Heifers with a pen making to a top of 362.2¢/kg, for an average weight of 233kg to return $849 per head.
- Only one pen of Cows & Calves on offer today and they were purchased for $1,625 per unit.
