Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 3,464 cattle, consisting of 2,458 Prime cattle & 1,006 Store cattle. The Prime cattle consisted of 575 Bullocks, 434 Heifers, 1,050 Cows and 399 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 644 Steers, 357 Heifers and 5 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of well-finished Bullocks selling to strong competition with mixed lines of well-finished Heifers and Cows also selling to good competition. The yarding was drawn from Mount Isa, Richmond, Hughenden, Normanton, Forsayth, Croydon, Einasleigh, Georgetown, Tully and Belyando as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 20¢ dearer, Heavy Heifers were firm, Heavy Cows were 10¢ dearer and Bulls were 5-10¢ dearer on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 416.2¢/kg for a pen of 17 sold on A/c DPI, that weighed 508kg to return $2,115 per head.
  • Best priced Trade Heifers were presented on A/c M & J Hoffmann that sold for 394.2¢/kg and weighed 590kg to return $2,325 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows were sold by A/c DF & DM Jones, Richmond for 374.2¢/kg weighing 544kg to return $2,037 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/c Gallagher Family Trust topped at 388.2¢/kg and weighed 475kg to return $1,845 per head.

  • A pen of 28 Crossbred Steers A/c LJ Payne, Home Hill made 470.2¢/kg and weighed 241kg returning an average of $1,135 per head.
  • A good run of Droughtmaster Cross Steers on A/c Brown & Sons, “Scottsburn”, Richmond topped at 446.2¢/kg, to average 421¢/kg and weighed 390kg to return an average of $1,641 per head.
  • A pen of 16 Crossbred Heifers on A/c LJ Payne made 382.2¢/kg, weighed 307kg and returned an average of $1,175 per head.
  • 3 Cows & Calves sold on A/c RA & CJ Bode, “The Plains”, Prairie returned $1,100 per unit.
