DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2026

Despite ongoing dry conditions, cattle numbers at Dalby declined to 6,276 head, with cow numbers falling to 913 head and 328 bulls supplied. A good panel of export buyers was present and active, along with the regular feed and trade operators. Restocker buyers had multiple interstate orders for young, lightweight cattle. There was a wide variation in quality, with buyers very selective, which was reflected in prices. Most lightweight yearling  steers  and  heifers  struggled  to  maintain  the improved prices of the previous week, although good-quality lines experienced strong support.

Yearling steers and heifers to feed generally sold close to the previous week’s levels, with price movements largely related to quality. Heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to a very strong market. Plain-condition cows to restockers received a lift in price, while processor lines averaged close to firm, although top money improved on the previous week. Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to a top of 610c/kg, with a large number averaging from 543c to 549c/kg. Medium-weight  yearling  steers  to  feed  made  to  584c/kg,  with  most  sales  from  524c  to  565c/kg.

Heavy-weight yearling steers to feed made to a top of 596c/kg, with the largest numbers at 534c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers to restockers were well supplied and made to an isolated 528c/kg, with a large selection averaging from 433c to 490c/kg. Medium-weight yearling heifers to feed averaged from 428c to 492c/kg, with sales to 532c/kg, while heavy-weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 490c and made to 536c/kg. Bullocks made to 493c/kg and averaged 488c/kg, while heavy grown heifers made to 476c/kg.

Very plain-condition cows to restockers made to 356c/kg and averaged 337c/kg, with some better-condition lines averaging 353c/kg. Heavy-weight 3-score cows to processors averaged 373c/kg, while the best cows made to 428c/kg and averaged 398c/kg, with some returning $3,350/head. Heavy-weight bulls made to 498c/kg, with isolated sales reaching $5,280/head.
