Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1,479 prime cattle, consisting of 317 bullocks, 311 heifers, 722 cows and 129 bulls.

Cattle comprised of isolated pens of meat works bullocks, one good line of speyed trade heifers, a few pens of heavyweight cows, with the majority being light cows. The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Richmond, Hughenden, Chillagoe, Georgetown and Basalt, as well as coastal areas.

Prime Quotes:

Bullocks were quoted 20c dearer, heifers were 10c dearer, cows were 20c dearer, and bulls were unchanged on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 448c/kg on A/c D & M Fryer, “Ellington”, Prairie, weighing 695kg to return $3,115 per head.
  • Best priced trade heifers were presented on A/c Fletchervale Pastoral Co, “Fletchervale”, Charters Towers, weighing 421kg to return $1,718 per head.
  • The top pen of cows were sold on A/c R Flute and S West, Charters Towers, for 406c/kg, weighing 600kg to return $2,437 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/c Braceborough Pastoral Co, “Braceborough”, Charters Towers, topping at 366c/kg, weighing 510kg to return $1,868 per head.
