CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1,515 cattle, consisting of 651 prime cattle & 864 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 246 Bullocks, 112 Heifers, 83 Cows and 210 Bulls. The store cattle consisted of 324 Steers, 222 Mickeys, 318 Heifers.

Small yarding of prime cattle consisted of isolated pens of well finished bullocks and cows, with majority of the yarding being of secondary types, and not all processors operating. Bulls selling to a strong demand with interest from processors and live exporters. The yarding was drawn from Normanton, Laura, Forsayth, Mt Isa, Richmond, Hughenden, and Torrens Creek as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 10-15¢ cheaper, Heifers were 12-15¢ dearer, Cows were 10¢ cheaper, and Bulls were 15-20¢ dearer on last week’s rates.

  • Heavy steers were presented on A/C WP & TM Lillyman, Richmond, sold for 308¢/kg and weighed 437kg to return $1,347 per head.
  • Best Priced trade Heifers were presented on A/c KA & ME Vaughan, Charters Towers that sold for 314¢/kg and weighed 339kg to return $1,063 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows were sold on A/c RB Grazing, Ingham sold for 274¢/kg, weighing 500kg to return $1,371 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/c Kanda NT, Torrens Creek topped at 310¢/kg and weighed 565kg, to return $1,752 per head.

Store Quotes: Store cattle consisted of mostly western & northern bred types, with prices reflecting of a very mixed quality yarding.
