CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 15TH JULY 2026

Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 2,401 cattle, consisting of 1,659 prime cattle & 742 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 308 Bullocks, 383 Heifers, 911 Cows & 57 Bulls. The store section consisted of 573 Steers, 158 Heifers and 11 Cows & Calves.

Prime comprised of a number of large lines from the northwest, and a handful of smaller consignments from the local area. Quality and condition were very mixed, with not a lot of weight on offer. All regular buyers competed in a firm market.

The yarding was drawn from Cammoweal, Mount Isa, Burketown, Richmond, Hughenden, Cape York, Mount Garnet, Einasleigh, Georgetown, as well as local and coastal area.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quotes 10c easier heifers were 5c dearer, Cows were 20c dearer & Bulls were 10c dearer on last weeks rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 372c/kg for a pen of 12 sold on A/c P & L Fry, that weighed 660kg to return $2,459 per head.
  • Best priced Trade Heifers were presented on A/c V McMahon that sold for 360c/kg and weighed 530kg to return $1,908 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows were sold by Brown & Sons, “Beenfield”, Mckinlay for 360c/kg weighing 508kg to return $1,833 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/c EJT & KL Camp topped at 348c.kg and weighed 645kg to return $2,248 per head.

Store Quotes: Store cattle comprised of one line of Feeder Steers from the west which attracted solid competition and trended dearer. All other categories were represented in smaller numbers and sold firm compared to last weeks rates.

  • A pen of 17 Steers A/c Brown & Sons, “Beenfield”, Mckinlay made 422c/kg and weighed 411kg, returning an average of $1,738 per head.
  • A good pen of Heifers on A/c J & T Andersen made 340c/kg, weighed 340kg and returned an average of $1,156 per head.
  • 4 Cows & Calves sold on A/c MA & RG Pryor returned $1,150 per unit.
