CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 16TH APRIL 2025

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 704 cattle, consisting of 238 Prime cattle & 447 Store cattle. The Prime cattle consisted of 69 Bullocks, 11 Heifers, 142 Cows and 16 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 291 Steers, 39 Mickeys, 117 Heifers and 19 x 19 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of a good selection of well finished slaughter types which met strong competition from four regular processors. Feedlot orders were active along with backgrounders who remain selective. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Almaden, Einasleigh, Normanton, Mt Garnet as well as local and coastal areas.

  • Bullocks sold on A/C TN & MA Carr, Charters Towers made 322c/kg, weighing 690kg to return $2,223 per head.
  • Best priced trade Heifers were presented on A/C GH & EM Smith, “Kookaburra Kounty”, Mingela that sold for 270c/kg and weighed 377kg to return $1,017 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows were sold on A/C CP & NA Ferguson, “Cardigan Station”, Charters Towers for 288c/kg, weighing 473kg to return $1,361 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/C Kenneth Breen, Mt Isa topped at 282c/kg and weighed 545kg, to return $1,536 per head.

 

Store Quotes: Store cattle comprised of a couple of good lines of Feeder Steers and Heifers over 350kg which met strong competition from the feedlots. Backgrounders achieved pleasing results however heavier lines were most favoured.

  • A pen of 11 VGQ Steers on A/C JD & RM Lyons, “Niall”, Charters Towers made 326c/kg, weighed 444kg and returned $1,446 per head.
  • A good pen of 12 Heifers on A/C RA & EM Simpson, Almaden made 270c/kg weighed 343kg returning $926 per head.
  • 19 x 19 Cows & Calves ranged from $700 – $820 per unit
