CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 16TH OCTOBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2356 cattle, consisting of 1126 Prime cattle & 1230 Store cattle. The Prime cattle consisted of 238 Bullocks, 153 Heifers, 669 Cows and 66 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 538 Steers, 190 Mickeys, 502 Heifers and 1×1 Cow & Calf.

Cattle comprised of isolated pens of heavy prime cattle, with majority of the yarding being of secondary types lacking finish, Bulls again were mixed quality with suitable Bulls to live Ex trade selling to good competition.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 5¢ dearer, Heifers were unchanged, Cows were 5¢ easier, and Bulls were 5-8¢ easier on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 320¢/kg, sold on A/c DD, LD & SL Campbell, Hughenden, weighed 603kg and returned $1,931 per head.
  • Heifers topped at 276¢/kg, sold on A/c EJT & KL Camp, Burketown, weighed 387kg and returned $1,067 per head.
  • Cows topped at 287¢/kg, sold on A/c DJ & PL Holdcroft, Hughenden, weighed 593kg, and returned $1,704 per head.
  • Bulls topped at 272¢/kg, sold on A/c FW & RA Blacklock, Julia Creek, weighed 708kg and returned $1,927 per head.

Store Quotes: Store yarding consisted of some good quality Crossbred & Brahman Steers and heifers on offer which was met by good competition from a range of Backgrounders, Processors and feedlot operators.
