CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 28TH MAY 2025

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 3,282 Cattle, consisting of 1,445 Prime Cattle and 1,837 Store Cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 300 Bullocks, 189 Heifers, 866 Cows and 90 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 1,262 Steers, 554 Heifers and 21 x 16 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of a quality line up of small consignments of mainly well-finished cattle with all categories receiving solid competition. All normal processors were in attendance. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Burketown, Richmond, Hughenden, Georgetown, Mt Garnet as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 4c dearer, heifers 5c dearer, cows were 8-10c dearer and bulls were 10c dearer on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 298c/kg for a pen of 20 Brahman steers sold on A/C Gernlea Farming, weighed 642kg, to return $1,912 per head.
  • Best priced trade heifers were presented on A/C Hillgrove Pastoral that sold for 272c/kg and weighed 527kg to return $1,435 per head.
  • The top pen of cows were sold by A/C Hillgrove Pastoral for 272c/kg, weighing 561kg to return $1,526 per head.
  • Bulls sold on A/C J & J Needham topped at 270c/kg and weighed 683kg, to return $1,846 per head.

Store Quotes: Store cattle were presented in a mixed quality type yarding, with the isolated pens of better-quality steers & heifers returning similar rates to last Friday. The secondary type, plainer and mixed quality cattle continuing to receive lackluster and reduced competition.

  • A pen of 14 steers A/C Janet Walters topped the sale making 352c/kg and weighed 198kg, returning an average of $696 per head.
  • A pen of 12 steers A/C Abdy Family Grazing, Cloncurry made 328c/kg, weighing 358kg to return $1,174 per head.
  • A good pen of 25 heifers on A/C LHRPHC ‘Lawn Hill’ made 286c/kg, weighed 270kg returning $772 per head.
  • 22 x 16 cows & calves sold on A/C R & D Priestly, ‘Walkcege’, Hughenden and returned $850 per unit.
