Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2,463 Prime Cattle and 27 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 417 Bullocks, 485 Heifers, 1,301 Cows and 233 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 18 Steers & 9 Heifers.

Cattle comprised of only one good line of Bullocks. A good number of prime heifers and cows made up the majority of the yarding. Local processors competed with other from New South Wales and Victoria to realise a dearer market across all categories.

The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Julia Creek, Richmond, Hughenden, Georgetown, and Lakeland as well as local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted firm, Heifers were 10c dearer, Cows were 10c dearer, Bulls were 12-15c dearer on last weeks rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 386c/kg sold on A/C Brown & Sons, “Scottsburn” Richmond that weighed 580kg to return $2,242 per head.
  • Best priced trade heifers were presented on A/C JR & DJ Brownson, Charters Towers that sold for 370c/kg and weighed 499kg to return $1,849 per head.
  • The top pen of cows was sold on A/C Laroona Pastoral Co, Charters Towers, for 378c/kg, weighing 610kg to return $2,305 per head.
  • Heavy bulls sold on A/C Jonelle McDowall topped at 360c/kg and weighed 675kg, to return $2,431 per head.
