CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2024

Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2512 cattle, consisting of 1221 Prime cattle & 1291 Store cattle. The Prime cattle consisted of 317 Bullocks, 46 Heifers, 493 Cows and 365 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 781 Steers, 502 Heifers and 8 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of smaller lines of finished Bullocks, Cows & Heifers, which sold to similar rates as last week. A larger run of lesser quality Northern types, with a large increase of bulls dominated the balance of the prime yarding. The yarding was drawn from as far away as the NT, as well as Richmond, Hughenden, Maxwelton, Mt Garnet, Lakeland, Torrens Creek, along with all local and coastal areas.

Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted 5¢ dearer, Heifers 8¢ easier, Cows were 10¢ easier, and Bulls also 10¢ easier on last week’s rates.

  • Bullocks topped at 338¢/kg for 12 Bullocks, sold on a/c MI McClymont that weighed 590kg to return $1,995 per head.
  • Best Priced trade Heifers were presented on a/c Mt Douglas Past Co, “Mt Douglas”, Clermont that sold for 270¢/kg and weighed 378kg to return $1,020 per head.
  • The top pen of Cows were sold by Mt Douglas Past Co, “Mt Douglas”, Clermont for 292¢/kg, weighing 651kg to return $1,902 per head.
  • Bulls sold on a/c LJ & B Schneider, Mt Fox topped at 280¢/kg and weighed 580kg, to return $1,624 per head.

Store Quotes: Store cattle were mainly made up of two larger lines, consisting of a large line of #1 & #2 Steers, along with another line of quality #3 Heifers from the West – which both sold very well. All other cattle were smaller lots, and predominantly mixed quality.

  • A good pen of 36 Heifers on a/c Lilyvale Land Co, “Lilyvale”, Richmond made 266¢/kg, weighed 309kg returning $821 per head.
