CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 5TH AUGUST 2026
Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2,863 cattle, consisting of 1,498 Prime cattle & 1,365 Store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 438 Bullocks, 244 Heifers, 654 Cows and 162 Bulls. The store section consisted of 644 Steers, 43 Mickeys, 673 Heifers and 5 Cows & Calves.
Cattle comprised of isolated pens of finished Bullocks and Cows with competition strong along with heavy feeder types selling well. Cattle showing signs of the current conditions slipped in value with good competition for Bulls with exporters operating. The yarding was drawn from Mt Isa, Richmond, Julia Creek, Prairie, Burketown, Georgetown, Mt Garnet as well as local and coastal areas.
Prime Quotes: Bullocks were quoted similarly, Heifers were 10-15¢ easier, Cows were 5-10¢ easier, and Bulls were similar to last week’s rates.

- Bullocks topped at 405¢/kg for Ox sold on A/c Lawrie Grazing Trust, “Lancewood”, Charters Towers that weighed 655kg to return $2,652 per head.
- Best Priced trade Heifers were presented on A/c Lennox Family Partners, Pentland that sold for 350.2¢/kg, and weighed 386kg to return $1,354 per head.
- The top pen of Cows were sold by A/c T & P Whitten, “May Downs”, Hughenden for 338.2¢/kg, weighing 621kg to return $2,100 per head/
- Bulls sold on A/c O’Brien & Son, Kinrara, topped at 372.2¢/kg and weighed 680kg, to return $2,530 per head.
Store Quotes: Store cattle Trade Steers and Heifers were in demand with good competition. All younger cattle and those showing signs of the drying conditions found the market tougher. Good Crossbred types were still in high demand.

- A pen of 10 Crossbred Steers on A/c Parkland, Charters Towers made 468.2¢/kg, and weighed 284kg, returning an average of $1,329 per head.
- A good pen of Heifers on A/c Pemble Livestock Pty Ltd, “Barrington”, Charters Towers made 348.2¢/kg, weighed 281kg and returned an average of $979 per head.
- Cows & Calves sold from $520 to $1,000 per unit.
