CHARTERS TOWERS PRIME & STORE CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 6TH MARCH 2026
Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1,225 Cattle, consisting of 509 Prime Cattle and 716 Store Cattle. The Prime Cattle consisted of 92 Bullocks, 45 Heifers, 352 Cows and 20 Bulls. The Store section consisted of 374 Steers & Mickeys, 338 Heifers and 3 x 3 Cows and Calves
Prime cattle comprised of a smaller overall yarding, with limited numbers of finished Bullocks and Heifers presented. Cows were penned in reduced numbers, however were met with firm competition with most prime categories experiencing an increase in rate. The yarding was drawn from Burketown, Richmond, Hughenden, Georgetown, Einasleigh as well as local and coastal areas

Bullocks this week quoted unchanged. Heifers were 5c dearer, Cows 9-10c dearer & Bulls 10c/kg better on last weeks sale.

- Bullocks topped the job at 338c/kg on A/c S & J Farquhar, the steers averaged 565kg to return $1,910 per head.
- Processor Heifers saw a top this week of 330c/kg for a pen of Heifers on A/c Hillgrove Pastoral Company, weighing 480kg to return $1,586 per head.
- Hillgrove Pastoral Company topped the Cow market with a pen making 310c/kg and an average weight of 564kg to return $1,750 per head.
- Bulls presented on A/c G & G Smerdon topped at 334c/kg for an average weight of 660kg to return $2,205 per head.
Store Quotes
Store cattle presented with a noticeable reduction in both numbers and overall quality across all Steer categories. Steers generally sold to slightly easier rates, lighter weight Heifers attracted stronger competition from restockers and backgrounders, resulting in improved rates across most categories.

- EJ & MC Callcott topped the Steer job today with Red Brahman Steers averaging 300kg reaching to a top of 368c/kg to return $1,104 per head.
- PB & SE Curley, Charters Towers offered the best of the store Heifers with Red Brahmans Heifers making to a top of 334.2c/kg, for an average weight of 272kg, to return $910 per head.
- Limited numbers of Cows and Calves were yarded ranging from $1,025 to $1,300 per unit.
