Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 3,119 Store cattle. The store section consisted of 1,200 Steers, 216 Mickeys, 1,674 Heifers and 29 Cows & Calves.

Cattle comprised of four good quality lines and a number of smaller consignments which were in forward condition due to the good season. The yarding was draw from Camooweal, Richmond, Hughenden, Normanton, Georgetown, Forsayth, Ravenwood, Reid River as well as local and coastal areas.

Store Quotes: Good quality lines of steers were fully firm to slightly dearer. A couple of good lines of breeder quality heifers sold for a premium price, whilst others sold to similar rates as previous weeks. Secondary cattle were discounted and harder to shift.

  • A good pen of 31 NO. 3 Brahman X feeder steers A/C Amity Cattle Company, “Amity”, Mingela made 298c/kg and weighed 405kg to return an average of $1,207 per head.
  • A good line of 64 NO. 4 & 5 Crossbred steers A/C BM Entriken, “Toronto Park”, Richmond made 362c/kg and weighed 276kg to return an average of $999 per head.
  • A good line of 144 NO. 4 & 5 Brahman steers A/C Blue Gate Pastoral Company, “Ellenvale”, Reid River made 336c/kg and weighed 260kg to return an average of $876 per head.
  • A good pen of 15 NO. 4 Brahman X feeder heifers A/C Christmas Creek Cattle Co, “Christmas Creek”, Charters Towers made 288c/kg to weigh 446kg and return $1,285 per head.
  • A good line of 327 NO. 4 Brahman X heifers A/C Valpre Grazing Pty Ltd, “Valpre Station”, Charters Towers sold to restockers for a top of 318c/kg to average 290, weigh 248kg and return an average of $720 per head.
  • 23 medium to large-framed cows with good calves A/C Priestley Family, “Big Beef”, Forsayth made $1,150 per unit.
