DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 18TH MARCH 2026

At this week’s Dalby Cattle Sale, numbers lifted sharply to 8,046 head, an increase of 5,556, with cow numbers rising to 1,438 head and 212 bulls yarded. Export buyer attendance eased compared to the previous sale, although southern operators remained active, and the larger yarding allowed buyers to be more selective. Despite this, well-bred light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock continued to receive strong support, while the better end of the yearling steers to feed sold to solid demand, though average prices eased slightly. Lighter weight yearling heifers to restockers were well supported, but lesser quality lines were cheaper, and medium to heavy weight yearling heifers to feed were well supplied and sold to a market 8c to 20c/kg easier. Heavy cows to export processors averaged around 7c/kg less, while medium weight plain condition cows were firm to dearer due to restocker competition. Light weight yearling steers to restockers made to 624c/kg and averaged 524c to 529c/kg, while domestic feeder steers sold to 570c to average 500c to 534c/kg, and heavy feeder steers made to 520c/kg, averaging around 489c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock made to 452c/kg and averaged 392c to 404c/kg, medium weight heifers to feed averaged 392c to 402c/kg with sales to 448c/kg, and heavy feeder heifers sold to 442c/kg to average 398c/kg. Bullocks reached 458c/kg to average 440c/kg, heavy grown heifers averaged 419c/kg and sold to 430c/kg, medium weight plain condition cows to restockers made 360c/kg to average 345c/kg, while heavy 3 score cows to processors averaged 367c/kg and the best made to 395c/kg to average 379c/kg, and heavy bulls sold to 392c/kg.
