DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 1ST JULY 2026
The first sale of the new financial year at Dalby attracted 4,877 head, around 500 fewer than the previous week. Numbers of cows also declined to 726 head, along with 311 bulls.
Buyer representation remained strong, with southern feedlot and restocker operators returning after their absence the previous week.
Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock met solid demand, with prices showing only quality-related variations. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed followed a similar trend. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers averaged 14c/kg higher and improved by up to 40c/kg in places, while yearling heifers to feed averaged 8c/kg dearer and lifted by more than 30c/kg in some sales.
However, export classes of heavy grown steers, bullocks and cows were unable to maintain the previous week’s rates, easing by 2c to 5c/kg. Light weight yearling steers to restockers sold to a top of 611c/kg, with a good sample averaging 545c to 549c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market reached 590c/kg and averaged 538c to 544c/kg, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to 580c/kg and averaged 542c/kg.
Light weight yearling heifers returning to the paddock were well supplied, but despite the larger offering, prices strengthened, topping at 544c/kg, with most sales ranging from 485c to 486c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 495c to 516c/kg and sold to 558c/kg, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed reached 564c/kg and averaged 495c/kg.
A fair sample of bullocks averaged 454c/kg and sold to 480c/kg, while full-mouth bullocks averaged 431c/kg and topped at 437c/kg. Grown heifers sold to 448c/kg and averaged 446c/kg. Medium weight 2-score cows reached 355c/kg and averaged 339c/kg. Heavy weight 3-score cows averaged 364c/kg, while the best heavy cows averaged 383c/kg and occasionally sold to 400c/kg, with some returning up to $3,052 a head.
Heavy weight bulls sold to 467c/kg.
