DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER 2026

Cattle numbers at Dalby lifted a further 250 head to 7,195, the highest yarding in the nation so far this week. Cow numbers eased from the previous week but remained relatively high at 1,092 head, along with 339 bulls.

A large consignment of 1,033 head came from Far Western Queensland, with a further 222 head from New South Wales and 171 head from South Australia, while the remaining 5,750 head were sourced from local supply areas. The yarding featured a strong representation of cattle across all classes, with both interstate and local consignments contributing signifi cantly to overall numbers. Buyer representation was good, with the return of interstate support across a number of categories.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers and heifers to feed, at the time of this interim report, experienced mostly quality-related price movements. Heavy grown steers to export processors sold to strong demand; however, most cow classes were unable to maintain the previous week’s levels, easing by 2c to 10c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold from 552c to average 514c/kg, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 505c and reached a top of 536c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 412c, with sales reaching 462c/kg, while heavy weight yearling heifers sold to a top of 482c to average 421c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export processors made to 478c to average 470c/kg, while heavy grown heifers reached 468c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 343c and sold to 354c/kg, while heavy weight 3 score cows averaged 367c, with the best of the cows making to 392c and averaging 385c/kg. Heavy weight bulls were cheaper, selling to 422c/kg.
