DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 2ND APRIL 2025
Rain fell throughout the sale, with heavy flooding affecting a large portion of the supply area, leading to the cancellation of several sales in Queensland. As a result, the stock supply at Dalby dropped by 984 head, totaling 2,673. The trend of larger numbers of cows being off loaded in the south continued at Dalby, where over 700 cows and heifers were included in the lineup. All the regular export buyers were present and active in a much dearer market. Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock saw a price increase of over 35c/kg. Yearling steers to feed improved by 13c to 17c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers gained 30c to 35c/kg, with some making even higher prices in certain areas. Yearling heifers to feed sold for 10c to 12c/kg more, with local trade lines rising by over 20c/kg. Heavy grown steers and bullocks were also noticeably dearer, and all classes of cows experienced a price increase of 23c to 32c/kg. Yearling steers under 200kg, sold to restockers, made up to 468c/kg. Yearling steers under 280kg, also returning to the paddock, averaged 445c, reaching a high of 456c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged between 388c and 436c, with isolated sales reaching 454c/kg. Heavyweight yearling steers to feed sold for 410c, averaging 384c/kg. Very lightweight yearling heifers reached up to 394c, while the under-280kg lines made up to 364c, averaging 346c/kg. Medium-weight yearling heifers to feed averaged between 337c and 340c, with sales reaching up to 365c/kg. Heavyweight yearling heifers to feed averaged 344c, and local trade lines reached up to 360c/kg. Heavy grown steers, supplementary fed, made up to 386c, averaging 376c/kg. Bullocks sold for up to 404c, averaging 388c/kg. Grown heifers reached up to 367c/kg. Medium-weight 2-score cows averaged 269c, with a high of 275c/kg. Heavyweight 3-score cows averaged 305c, and the best cows sold for up to 335c, averaging 328c/kg. Heavyweight bulls made an isolated high of 342c/kg.
