DALBY CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 8TH JULY 2026

Cattle numbers at Dalby increased by 1,175 head to 6,052. The number of cows penned also lifted to 1,236, along with 2,317 heifers. Buyer attendance was good, with representatives covering all classes, including restocker buyers from central New South Wales.

Lightweight yearling steers returning to the paddock were in strong demand, averaging 17c to 30c/kg dearer. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market improved by 30c/kg, while heavy weight yearling steers to feed lifted 15c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers to restockers experienced a wide variation in prices as buyers were very selective. The lighter end of the yearling heifers to feed struggled, easing around 12c/kg, although top-quality medium and heavy weight lines improved in value. A fair selection of bullocks averaged 7c/kg dearer.

Cows were generally dearer, with medium weight plain condition lines keenly sought by restockers, lifting 30c/kg. Medium weight 2-score cows to processors averaged 8c/kg better, while heavy weight 3 and 4-score cows sold to a market 4c to 7c/kg stronger.

Lightweight yearling steers to restockers sold to a top of 678c/kg and averaged 566c to 576c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed reached 619c/kg, with the largest numbers selling between 574c and 582c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 626c/kg and averaged 557c/kg. Lightweight yearling heifers returning to the paddock sold to an isolated 534c/kg, with most sales around 480c/kg and lesser quality lines averaging 397c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 566c/kg and averaged from 503c to 529c/kg, while heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 518c/kg and made to the occasional 578c/kg.

A fair sample of bullocks averaged 461c/kg and made to 494c/kg. Medium weight plain condition cows sold to restockers averaged 356c/kg, with sales to 369c/kg. Medium weight 2-score cows to processors made to 360c/kg and averaged 347c/kg. Heavy weight 3-score cows averaged 371c/kg, while the best heavy weight cows made to 396c/kg and averaged 387c/kg. Heavy weight bulls sold to 460c/kg, with some returning up to $4,443/head.
