EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 17TH JULY 2025

Emerald combined agents yarded 2,229 at this week’s prime and store sale. The yarding was very mixed in quality and condition and included some runs of cattle bred in Northern and Coastal regions. In general, the better-quality cattle in suitable condition and presentation sold well, however, cattle lacking quality and condition sold to reduced competition and resulted in a softer trend. This was most evident in the store sections, particularly in the lighter end of heifers under 350kg.

Genuine finished bullocks were in limited supply with the best making 337c/kg to average 318c/kg. There were approximately 700 cows on offer, however quality and finish were very mixed. Heavy cows over 520kg with good cover sold well for an isolated top of 311c/kg to average 278c/kg. Cows 450-520kg sold to a top of 284c/kg with an average of 257c/kg, whilst cows 400-450kg averaged 231c/kg and cows under 400kg averaged 201c/kg. The best of the heavy heifers over 400kg sold to 330c/kg to average 299c/kg. Heavy bulls over 600kg sold well to top at 290c/kg to average 245c/kg.

As noted, the store section was of very mixed quality and presentation which will have contributed to the drop in many of the average prices.

Genuine feeder steers 400-500kg were very limited in numbers selling to 376c/kg to average 311c/kg. Steers 350-400kg the better pens peaked at 398c/kg to average 306c. Steers 280-350kg of better consistency topped at 438c/kg to average 362c/kg, whilst steers 200-280kg sold to an isolated 468c/kg, to average 350c/kg in line with the mixed offering. Steers under 200kg too few to quote.

Heifers to feed 350-400kg sold to a top of 306c/kg to average 273c/kg, heifers 280-350kg the biggest class for the day made 328c to average 254c with little competition on yearling heifers not pen ready. Heifers 200-280kg in lesser numbers also topped out at 328c to average 241c some of the sales in this class would be considered quite tough results, heifers under 200kg to few to quote.
