EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 18TH APRIL 2024

The numbers eased to just shy of 1,800 head for this week’s Emerald combined sale. The market followed the trend of earlier sales in the week to ease with some averages taking a real pasting, with that said there were sales no dissimilar to last sale for the better pens among the weaner and feeder categories.
Cattle were consigned from a broad area including Nebo, Bowen, Richmond and most local regions. The quality and presentation was mixed in most of the younger categories male or female and you could say it was the ladies day with females representing around 75% of the entire yarding. All regulars processors were represented however competition was restricted.

Steers & Bullocks over 500kg were too few to quote accurately, the best made to 254c the averages eased 17c @ 244c, Cows over 520kg were well represented make to 214c on occasion most did not cross the 200c barrier to average 188c, medium Cows 450/520kg sold well on the day to peak at 197c to average 177c, Hiefers over 400kg in similar numbers to last sale selling to feed or processor topped at 240c to average 223c, Bulls over 600kg the best made 220c to average 180c.

Feeder Steers 400/500kg darn near too few to quote however the results were pleasing to top at 326c to average 291c. Steers 350/400kg again short numbers also peaked at 326c to average 293c, Steers 280/350kg in better supply including some well bred pens of heavy weaners reached 344c to average 292c, Heifers 350/400kg some Euro X in the slot gained good buyer support to reach 288c for a run of 3 pens however most other sales stalled around 220c to see the average 237c, Hiefers 280/350kg in good numbers got to a top of 258c to average 222c.

Weaner Steers 200/280kg short numbers and continuity average 318c to peak at 398c, whilst Hiefers 200/280kg were mixed in breed and quality shown in the average of 203c the best made to 264c on occasion.

Cows and Calves; 1 single unit made $1,100 and 2 rodeo bred units made $785

Zane & Casey Hood, Capella sold Brahman & Charbray weaner Heifers with an average weight of 230kg to a top if 250c, the lead pen making $542, the Steer lead pen made 356c, weighing 280kg or $997

Greg Agius, Clermont sold Brangus weaner Steers 322kg to 320c or $1,031

Stranks Cattle Co, The Willows sold Brahman Cows to 214c , weighing 610kg returning $1,600

Russ & Dameeka, Prospect/Springsure sold Brahman Steers to top their class at 398c to weigh 207kg returning $823
