EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2025
Emerald combined agents yarded an increased number of 2,929 head at their weekly Prime & Store Sale. A large percentage of the yarding were prime cattle, with a fair sample of feeder steers and yearling heifers, with limited numbers of lighter weight or weaner types presented. Cattle were consigned from all local areas and included lines from the Northwest and Nebo. All regular buyers were in attendance which helped the market hold firm to a touch dearer for most categories, however some of the weaner heifers particularly those a bit of the pace, did struggle to find any great level of competition. Whilst there were some big fluctuations in the average prices (positive or negative) in some classes, this could be equally attributed to market trends and equally the variance in quality or presentation.
Steers over 500kg sold to 439c to average 414c up 16c, Cows over 520kg sold to 383c to average 359c firm, cows 450-520kg peaked at 370c to average 333c firm. Heifers over 400kg with interest from feedlots and processors, made to 440c to average 380c firm. Bulls over 600kg sold to 392c to average 348c up 26c.
Feeder steers in much better supply sold to 484c to average 443c up 71c, steers 350-400kg reached 478c to average 421c up 56c, steers 280-350kg average rose 26c, weaner steers sold to 504c/kg to average 432c an increase of 50c.
