EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 24TH JULY 2025

Emerald combined agents yarded just shy of 1,800 head in their weekly Prime & Store Sale. Cattle were drawn from all local areas with the inclusion of a couple larger line of store cattle from Nebo and Bowen. The processing sector was buoyed by two additional operators and prices responded in a reasonably mixed quality offering of slaughter cattle with cows continuing to make up the bulk of these numbers.

There were limited feeders albeit buyers were more active and, in the weaner, and yearling classes quality was very mixed (well below par) however sold to good competition with a definite lift noted in the secondary types on offer.

Genuine Bullocks were again very limited in supply and quality with the best making 247c to average 317c. cows over 520kg sold to 326c to average 303c a lift of 25c, Cows 450-520kg sold to 295c to average 274c up 17c, Cows 400-450kg topping at 278c to average 256c improving 24c. Heifers over 400kg in short number sold to 335c to average 300c/kg firm.

Bulls over 600kg topped at 297c to average 263c. Steers 400-500kg were in limited supply and quality, however the better end sold well topping at 390c to an average of 339c an increase of 27c, Steers 350-400kg in limited number made to 416c, Steers 280-350kg also short numbers sold to 424c to average 405c. Steers 200-280kg reasonably well supplied but very mixed in quality topped at 454c to average 363c, Steers under 200kg not quoted. Heifers 350-400kg short numbers and consistency sold to 322c to average 299c with support from both feeders and processors. Heifers 280-350kg in better numbers peaked at 310c to average 283c up 29c, Heifers 200-280kg mixed in age, breed and quality sold consistently with an additional veal account operating with a high of 304c to average 281c up 40c. Heifers under 200kg in lesser numbers topped at 292c to average 278c.

Two smaller consignments of Cows & Calves were present with the best selling for $1,280/unit.
