EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 26TH JUNE 2025

Emerald combined agents offered 1,617 head, for the last sale of the 24/25 financial year. Cows and one large single vendor consignment of yearling steers produced the greatest numbers. Whilst there were some very well-presented females to processors most other classes were short numbers or quite mixed in quality, breed and presentation. The processing sector was buoyed by an additional Victorian account however the beneficiaries were the larger framed well finished softer breeds with most other categories remaining either side of firm. Feedlot buyers found some competition on selected pens of steers from grass fatteners, whilst there were limited feeder weight heifers to quote. Bar the bigger run previously mentioned there were only smaller mixed lines of weaner or yearling steers and heifers suited to veal or grass operators.

Bullocks sold to about 340c on occasion albeit there were only limited numbers/pens offered, steers over 500kg made to 376c to feed. Cows over 520kg topped at about 310c to average 277c on paper, cows 450-520 in good numbers sold to 279c to average 254c up 14c, cows 400-450kg reach 276c on occasion to average 238c, cows under 400kg in fair numbers most from northern districts sold to 244c to average 198c. Heifers over 400kg the better framed well finished article sold well to peal at 349c, however a mixed offering bought the average back to 298c firm. Bulls over 600kg reached 275c to average 254c, the average falling in line with the mixed article offered.

Steers 400-500kg mixed in age, breed and polish sold to 362c to average 314c, steers 350-400kg sold according to market trends to reach 370c to average 323c, steers 280-350kg most from the bigger line from the north, the best of this class peaked at 400c to average 336c, steers 200-280kg hard to quote topped at 439c to average 365c, steers under 200kg not quoted.

Heifers 350-400kg not quoted, heifers 280-350kg in short numbers reaching 296c to average 287c, heifers 200-280kg in small numbers sold to 308c to average 279, heifers under 200kg not quoted.
