EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 29TH MAY 2025

With the second feature sale just days away numbers eased to 1,042 head for today’s Emerald combined sale. Quality, breed and presentation was very mixed in near all classes, with a couple of bigger lines originating from northern districts producing the greatest numbers. The processing sector was close to full strength and prices improved in a stronger market as the sale progressed, particularly noted in the better presented cows. There was only a very small sample of genuine feeders or local weaners male or female, all categories near too few to quote. Whilst there was a fair sample of yearlings however, most as mentioned from northern districts.

Bullocks too few to quote sold to 319c/kg, cows over 520kg with accreditation sold to 288c on occasion, most sales did not exceed 280c to average 270c/kg a lift of 20c, cows 450-520kg once again cows with accreditation peaked at 291c in this class to help lift the average by 22c at 265c/kg, cows under 450kg N/Q. Heifers over 400kg most selling to processors in good numbers peaked at 306c to average 298c/kg, bulls over 600kg reached 250c to average 225c/kg up 5c.

Steers 400-500kg too few to quote peaked at 320c/kg, steers 350-400kg in small numbers topped 394c to average 341c/kg, steers 280-350kg also made to 394c to average 316c/kg, steers 200-280kg with contributing factors made to 270c to average 251c/kg, steers under 200kg NQ.

Heifers 350-400kg short numbers sold to 296c to average 263c/kg, heifers 280-350kg the biggest class for the day however, there was a big mix in breed and quality effecting the results with a high of 306c the average was 223c/kg, heifers 200-280kg in less numbers but similar story reached 292c the average came in at 242c/kg, heifers under 200kg N/Q.

Two pens of mixed cows & calves sold for $340 and $800 per unit.
