EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 3RD JULY 2025

This week’s Emerald combined sale yielded just 1,000 head. It was predominantly local cattle where quality and presentation varied, bullocks and cows produced the greatest numbers and given the third feature sale is only days away it was not surprising that there were very limited numbers of store cattle presented. The processing sector was short the southern competitor operating in the previous week. This, along with a decline in cow numbers which potentially were not up to the standard of the previous week, thus prices did for most sales take a correction. A very small sample of feeder weight cattle found it hard to gain any traction and the weaner portion were very mixed with only a couple of pens of genuine local weaner presented making it difficult to quote.

Bullocks a fair sample mixed in age and presentation sold to 319c to average 309c. Cows over 520kg made to 291c to average 263c back 14c, cows 450-520kg sold to 262c to average 246c back 7c, cows under 450kg short numbers mixed in age and polish averaged 197c. Heifers over 400kg numbers, quality and polish dropped in line with the prices, topping at 309c to average 279c. Bulls over 600kg reached 279c to average 261c up 7c, Mickies 450-600kg in fair numbers peaked at 274c to average 264c.

Steers 400-500kg in very small numbers sold to 309c to average 303c, steers 350-400kg too few to quote reached 318c, steers 280-350kg short numbers sold to 436c. Steers 200-280kg there were only 2 pens making to 440c, steers under 200kg not quoted, 47 weaner mickeys sold from 100 to 256c to average 240c.

Heifers 350-400kg lacking numbers made to 284c to average 266c, heifers 280-350kg also short numbers topped at 265c to average 239c, heifers 200-280kg a few mixed pens sold to 280c to average 227c, heifers under 200kg not quoted.
