EMERALD CATTLE SALE MARKET REPORT – THURSDAY 5TH MARCH 2026
Emerald combined agents yarded 1,621 head at this week’s Prime and Store Sale, with cattle drawn from most local areas. The prime section was again strong, while the store cattle, although of mixed quality, still met strong competition. Heavy bulls reached a top of 413c/kg to average 376c/kg. Bullocks held firm under solid competition, with the best reaching 484c/kg to average 447c/kg. Cows over 520kg topped at 400c/kg to average 378c/kg, showing a lift in the category from last week’s sale, while secondary cows held firm to average 371c/kg. Prime heifers reached 445c/kg to average 413c/kg, seeing a lift of 7c/kg on last week’s top price. Feeder steers remained firm, topping at 500c/kg to average 455c/kg. Weaner steers with weight sold to 530c/kg to average 479c/kg, while lighter weaner steers 200–280kg made up to 548c/kg to average 484c/kg. Feeder heifers 350–400kg reached 415c/kg to average 392c/kg. Heavier weaner heifers 280–350kg sold to 430c/kg to average 393c/kg, while lighter weaner heifers 200–280kg reached 423c/kg to average 395c/kg, showing a good lift in this category. Although not many cows and calves were yarded today, a great line of Santa Gertrudis cows and calves reached $2,750 per unit.

K & E O’Brien, ‘Myrtle Park’, Comet sold good quality Santa cows and calves to a top of $2,750 per unit. They also sold a pen of PTIC cows for 408c/kg, returning $2,109 per head.
D & S Fletcher, ‘Good Hope’, Springsure sold Droughtmaster feeder steers for 484c/kg, weighing 438kg, returning $2,123 per head.
CJ Gleeson, Alpha sold Santa cross steers for 530c/kg, weighing 372kg, returning $1,972 per head.
OMO Cattle Co, Bogantungan sold Droughtmaster prime heifers to a top of 436c/kg, weighing 540kg, returning $2,355 per head.
C & R Mallyon, Anakie sold Charbray feeder heifers to a top of 398c/kg, weighing 376kg, returning $1,497 per head.
